Author: Mel Haeata Larson
For business and fan pages the ability to upload short videos or gifs in place of the standard static cover image. These videos can be from 20 to 90 seconds in duration and atleast 312 pixels high x 820 pixels wide.
What about music or sound effects? I’m glad you asked. Yes you can use music with your cover video. To preserve our sanity Facebook have set all cover videos to mute by default. this can be toggled on or off by clicking the small speaker button to the bottom left of the video.
While on the topic of music I must mention something important please keep copyright in mind, it is wise to only use music you have rights to use otherwise you may be breaking copyright and IP laws. There are several online sites that host creative commons licensing allowing you to use music from their libraries legally for free with a simple attribution credit. ie: “music by xzy..”
What can I include in my cover video? Well, you can include anything you as long as it is within Facebooks usual guidelines for content. I would suggest using something that relates to your business and the message your wanting to convey. You might just want your logo and company details, or a tag line, or maybe even a slide shows of products. The possibilities are truly endless.
Things to note: Cover videos are set to loop by Facebook default. Currently there is no option to prevent or change this. It is advisable to consider this fact or when creating your cover videos as anything to bright, flashing and alarming can become an eyesore after awhile.
Haven’t seen this option available yet? Don’t worry Facebook is doing their usual thing and rolling it out gradually. Check out the trendy cover video from the Feel Desain Facebook page at https://

Here is an example of a potential cover video. Just a basic one with an attractive background and the company name, other details can be included like logo, address, phone number, hours of operation.
Functional Video Covers
Another simple option is an animation featuring business logo, tag line and url details.
If you would like something a bit more attention grabbing how about a slideshow of products? remember you can change the video whenever you like making it a good opportunity to highlight promotions aswell.
Animated logo introductions make eye catching cover videos that can have multiple uses. Keep in mind though cover images are set to loop by default and at present the looping can not be disabled.
